PAYSTRAX x Cloud Office: Deploying a Secure, PCI-DSS Compliant Cloud Operations Baseline

This case study looks at how PAYSTRAX worked with Cloud Office to build a modern AWS foundation designed for resilience, scalability, and long-term growth.

The Challenge

Growth in payments only counts if the infrastructure behind it can be trusted completely. PAYSTRAX needed a cloud environment capable of supporting increasing transaction volumes while meeting the strict security and compliance requirements that come with operating in the payments industry – and that growth had to happen without compromising operational resilience, governance, or merchant trust.

Given the nature of the business, the operational baseline had to be built to a demanding standard: incredibly resilient, scalable, and strictly PCI-DSS compliant. In an environment handling financial transactions at scale, there’s little room for error – any architectural missteps or gaps in preventative governance wouldn’t just risk failing a compliance audit, they could lead to serious data breaches and a permanent loss of merchant trust.

The Solution

Rather than simply standing up infrastructure and calling it done, Cloud Office worked closely with PAYSTRAX to design a full cloud operating model – one built to support both day-to-day operations and PAYSTRAX’s future growth. Every architectural decision was made with scalability, security, and operational efficiency in mind, so PAYSTRAX’s team could stay focused on delivering payment solutions while relying on a cloud foundation that governs itself.

The build started with a multi-account AWS Landing Zone deployed via AWS Control Tower, enforcing organisational Service Control Policies, centralised logging, and strict environment separation – the kind of structural controls that financial auditing requirements demand from the ground up.

For the payment processing architecture itself, the team built around Amazon Elastic Container Service running on AWS Fargate. That serverless compute model means the platform can absorb high-volume transaction spikes without PAYSTRAX’s team needing to manually provision or operate virtual machines – reducing both operational burden and the surface area for things to go wrong.

The entire solution – networking, security controls, and the containerised application layer alike – was automated and provisioned using Terraform, so deployments stay repeatable and consistent rather than dependent on manual configuration.

The Results

Cloud Office delivered a highly governed, scalable cloud foundation aligned with PAYSTRAX’s PCI-DSS requirements. By combining Infrastructure as Code, serverless container operations, and automated governance, PAYSTRAX now has a resilient, low-maintenance cloud environment capable of securely processing high-volume financial transactions across Europe.

The new AWS foundation gives PAYSTRAX a secure, scalable platform that supports continued growth while cutting operational overhead through automation. With governance embedded from day one and infrastructure deployed as code, PAYSTRAX can introduce new services faster, maintain compliance more efficiently, and scale its payment processing operations with confidence as transaction volumes keep growing.

Why It Matters

For a payment acquirer, infrastructure isn’t just a technical detail – it’s the foundation merchant trust is built on. By treating security and compliance as design principles from the outset rather than requirements bolted on afterward, PAYSTRAX has built a cloud environment that can scale at the pace the business is growing, without the operational strain that usually comes with it.
